"Attractive lightweight, easy fold but latch a little troublesome" 2010-01-21
By D. J. Gholson (Philadelphia, PA)
This is an almost lightweight sturdy stroller that will accomadate an older child. The suspension makes the ride comfortable and it is easy to push relative to the stroller weight. The hood has two velcro fasteners in the back that can be unattached to allow it to come down over childs face as protective device. Folding is convienent but it still takes pretty much space because front wheels are a little large. However the latching mechanism requires much force as you sort of distort the stroller alignment to get it on. Overall a comfortable, lighter weight attractive stroller that accomadates a larger toddler.

"Cost-efficient cool compact carseat & child carrier (+ compatible cupholder comment)" 2009-10-19
By W. Chevalier
I'm very happy with this stroller. I love how light it is and that I can store it on the floor of the car in front of the baby's seat. It's right where I need it- no extra steps to the trunk to get it in and out, and no trunk space is taken up.

I found that the Eddie Bauer® Belt Bag Stroller Organizer is a perfect complement to it- the black with lime green stripe matches the apple stroller color, and it doesn't interfere with folding. (This has two drink holders and convenient zippered pocket.) The underbasket on the stroller is very small. I can put a jacket in there, but not my diaper bag. Luckily, the handle shape is great for hanging things, and the stroller is not at all tippy, so my bag hangs on the back, just below the stroller organizer. It's actually more convenient than setting it in an underbasket. I can also hang the older siblings' backpacks from the handles. And when I really need to use it as a pack mule- e.g. taking 4 big kids to the water park or hauling snack for 40 preschoolers- I can put stuff on the stroller seat, under the carseat.

The stroller's recline is not that great, so newborns can only use this in conjunction with their car seats. The Graco snugride 32 does fit! One feature that seems absent is a peek-a-boo window on the canopy to check on baby- but that's a minor complaint. My only other (also minor) complaint is that my brake unlock button has been sticking, so I have to push it up with my toe before pushing down on the brake lock button.

I have used this stroller on grassy areas and dirt paths, and have found that the wheels and suspension performed well. I have mainly used this for an infant in a carseat, however when the stroller first arrived, my 4-year-old insisted on riding in it for several laps around the house, so I can say it will fit an older child. I would recommend this as an all-purpose stroller that can be used with a carseat or for older children, is super lightweight and compact but has good wheels and suspension, and has a very cool modern look, at a reasonable price.

 "Fantastic, sturdy stroller" 2009-09-01

I absolutely love this stroller. I am now using it instead of the Graco snugrider because unlike the snugrider it can handle uneven sidewalks. It is not too heavy so I can pick it up and put it in the trunk. (The snugrider's one advantage is that it is so lightweight.) We've just taken this stroller on the plane and it was great in the airport. I also have the Bob, which I love for running, but it is too heavy and wide to use all the time. If I started over again I would just get this stroller and the bob for jogging. I was wary about this purchase because there were so few reviews and I hadn't seen many references to it. I found it through consumer reports, and am so glad I did. It really is terrific.

 "Great Purchase!" 2009-05-24
By Christine
I wanted a lightweight stroller that could also serve as a car seat carrier to replace our heavy, bulky travel system. After reading many reviews, I opted for the Onyx. I have been using the stroller for a month now.

Initially, I wanted to buy the Graco Snugride 32 to use with the Onyx but wasn't sure whether the stroller was compatible with the Snugride Infant (22 lbs) and/or the Snugride 32. The description on this site does not specifically mention this detail, and neither does the manual. The box however does mention the model number of the seat but I never figured out which one it refers to. In the end, I purchased the Chicco Keyfit 30 in an almost matching red. It fits in snugly and securely, but does not click.

PROS

- Lightweight and compact. Once folded, can easily be carried with one hand.

- Suspension provides an ultra smooth ride.

- Fast and easy to fold and unfold.

- Seems comfortable for baby.

- Can be used as car seat carrier.

- Nice futuristic look.

CONS

- Sun canopy is too small and inadequately shields baby when using stroller alone. This is not a problem when using it with the car seat.

- Handlebars are not ergonomic. Wrists get tired after a while.

- Handlebars are not adjustable. My 6'0 husband finds them too low, but they are perfect for my height (5'3").

- Both hands are required to fold stroller.

- The basket is small (8"x8"x10") and hard to access when seat is in recline position.

 "I Love This Stroller!" 2009-03-25
By Lauren (Memphis, TN)
I have the Crimson Red Onyx. As the other reviewer explained, there are two different Simmons strollers. This is the smaller of the two. I have been using this stroller for three months now and have no complaints. It is very lightweight and folds compactly. I keep it in the back of my car. I can pull it out and unfold it with one hand. It folds back up just as easily. It steers well and fits through tight places. I regularly take it to the park and use it on the grass, trails and around the lake. I have also used it at the mall, the zoo, in crowded elevators and doctors offices. It has done well everywhere I have taken it, on all types of surfaces and situations. I was pleased that my Chicco Keyfit 30 infant carrier fits in it securely, even though the description didn't say so. It does not have a cup holder, snack tray or big basket, so if that is what is important to you, this may not be your best choice. It does have a foot rest, small basket, good-sized canopy, 5-point harness, comfortable handles, padded strap covers and it reclines. If you want something lightweight and compact, but also sturdy and well made, that you can throw in the car and take everywhere, consider this stroller. I love it!
