 "Love it!" 2010-02-17
By J. Cabrera (Baton Rouge, LA)
I just received this stroller and it's great! Easy enough for me to get in and out of the vehicle. It is a bit tricky to close and a set of instructions would help. You just have to make sure to turn the tabs down and PUSH to get the pins to release the seat. I tried pulling the pins initially and thought this can't be right. It was way too difficult. I can see there might be problems with the tires. It came with all three tires completely flat. I was concerned, but I put air in the tires and went to the zoo with no problems. I bought the bob's cup holder and it works great for this stroller. It really does make it possible to do things with two children all by yourself. I was concerned that I would hit the bottom seat when walking, but it's perfect (I'm 5'3"). My 4 year old sits in the front comfortably and my 2 year old fits in the back easily. We have another child on the way so the 4 year old will be walking. I'm so glad that I bought this stroller despite some of the reviews.

"Brilliant for baby and toddler" 2009-09-08
By Cecilia Gurule
After watching some videos on youtube, hearing friends praising it, being exhausted by travelling with a baby and a toddler, I decided to go ahead and buy a phil and ted. I have now tried it irl with both kids in it and I'm so very happy with it and feel it was worth the money spent. I can't say much bad about it really but the one issue that bothered me and the only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars was that they don't make a sunshade for the extra rear seat only. As my toddler would not want to be covered by the double sun cover and that would be the only way to cover baby in the back, there's a big need for a solution for covering just baby in the back. I have however ordered the protect-a-bub sun shade (not phil and ted brand) that had excellent reviews and made with phil and teds in mind so I'm hoping that will work well. I'm sure there will be a phil and ted cover like that avaliable in the future as I've read many reviews with this particular concern. Other than that it really is great and folds up quite compact with the extra seat that comes of in a secon not taking up more room than an extra sweater in the trunk. Really recommend this!

"Amazing concept, but a seriously flawed product" 2009-08-27
By Zoe Alexis (Canada)
I bought the Phil & Ted's Sport in late 2007 just before my second child was born. My son and daughter are 24 months apart. We live downtown in a large city and I travel most places on foot or by public transit.

PROS: 1) Attractive and innovative design: the double-decker design is amazing! I've been using this stroller for nearly 2 years and I get positive comments about it every day. Many older women have said that they wished this type of stroller was around when their children were small. It's compact and looks very small and sleek in comparison to most double strollers.

2) Folds easily: you simply pull out a small pin on either side of the main seat and it folds in half. It is nearly flat when folded - the front wheel does stick up a bit. The only downside with folding is that the second seat must be removed first. The second seat doesn't fold, but it is already flat. That means that you are left with 2 pieces. If you're putting the stroller into a car, that's no big deal, but if you're folding it to store on a train, plane, or at a restaurant in their coat check, or whatever else, then having 2 separate pieces is awkward.

3) Relatively lightweight. This is by no means a light stroller, but when you compare it to other doubles, I think it is lighter. I've lugged it up and down long flights of stairs many times and it's not too difficult.

4) Easy to clean. You can remove most of the fabric off of the frame and stick it into the washing machine. The fabric of the undercarriage basket doesn't come off (to my knowledge), but it can be spot-cleaned easily enough. It's simple to keep the stroller looking clean and new.

5) Accommodates a large child well. My son is nearly 4 years old now and still fits quite comfortably into either seat. He's 42 inches tall and weighs 35 pounds. In the Bugaboo, he looks ridiculously large and he has to fold up his knees so his feet don't dangle. My son has muscle/motor problems and doesn't have much stamina for walking so it's nice to find a stroller that fits him.

CONS: 1) The wheels are *horribly* designed. We have had to buy new inner tubes 6 times already because the tires got irreparable holes in them. The first time it happened, I figured I'd run over something sharp. The second time we thought that maybe we'd overinflated the tires and that had caused a rupture, so we replaced them again. I've put the Phil & Ted through normal wear-and-tear and nothing exceptional, so I think it's ridiculous that it keeps getting flat tires. We've had them professionally replaced at the store where we bought the stroller so I know it's not that I'm installing them incorrectly. I have a Bugaboo Frog that I used daily for 2 years and never had any problems with the tires - I never needed to inflate them and they never flattened due to a puncture.

After we assembled the stroller initially I realized that the wheels' quick release function didn't work. When the problem with the inner tube first arose, we couldn't take the wheel off to fix it and needed to bring the whole thing to the shop. After the second incident, the shop called Phil & Ted and got us a whole new frame on warranty. They replaced everything but the fabric, so it was essentially a new stroller. That didn't prevent the problem from recurring though! The wheels now do pop off as they should and I've had no more problems with the alignment, but the tires do flatten regularly. We used to carry a bicycle pump around with us, but it didn't fit in the tiny storage basket underneath so it was an enormous pain and we gave up. We have just been told that the latest hole in the inner tube was caused by the wheel wearing out. It has threads embedded in the rubber and if it wears thin, the threads cut into the inner tube as the wheel turns. We're going to need to replace the wheels at our own expense if we want to keep using the stroller.

2) The storage space under the stroller is tiny when there is a child in the second seat. If you do need to use the space for transporting groceries or something, then the child's legs have nowhere to go and they must sit cross-legged or scrunched up.

3) The stroller is hard to steer under the best of circumstances and nearly impossible if there is snow or if you want to do it with one hand. The Bugaboo turns on a dime and has an amazing turning radius. It's so sensitive that it's extremely easy to steer with one hand. When I first switched over to using the Phil & Ted I found it extremely hard to turn, steer around obstacles, etc. There is a pin in the front wheel assembly that allows you to set the stroller to drive in a straight line (when the pin is in place) or can be removed to allow the front wheel to rotate freely. I'm not sure why anyone would want the stroller to be unable to turn, so I question the usefulness of this feature! That aside, I was constantly annoyed because the wheel would lock into position and the pin would jam, then I'd find I couldn't turn at all and needed to actually flip the stroller over, remove the wheel, and fiddle with the pin. While holding my baby and trying to keep my 2-year-old from getting into trouble. After the frame was replaced I no longer had this problem or the severe difficulties steering. However, it is still a clumsier stroller than most others on the market. I tried out a BOB Dualie recently and its steering and handling is terrific. The Bugaboo is as well - if only they made a double!

4) No padding. I believe the newer models have more padding, but ours has none. Both of my kids regularly conk their heads against the metal tubing while napping or simply moving around in the stroller. This is much worse in the bottom, since the bottom seat does not recline. A napping child in the lower seat will lurch forward and bump his head on the underside of the top seat, then flop backwards and bash his head against his own seat's metal frame. I've tried tightening the harness, and I've tried using various sorts of pillows and neck rests, but none of it really works. I'd love to see how the newer model with the reclining lower seat and some extra padding works. It might take care of the problem.

5) The hood isn't nearly long enough to be adequate protection against the sun, so you will probably need to invest in the Phil & Ted's sun cover.

The verdict? I think the concept of this stroller is terrific, but the actual product is seriously flawed. I love not having to use an enormously long or wide stroller to accommodate two kids. It fits into stores and on the subway and in the grocery store, and people on the street always get a kick out of seeing that there's an extra kid "hiding" down below. My kids like it and find it comfortable. However, I'm just so frustrated by constantly having to deal with flat tires, steering and alignment problems. Today I got caught a few miles from home with a completely flat tire, two cranky kids, and no way to get home... for the third time. I came online just now to browse reviews of other double strollers in the hopes of finding one that's more reliable and easier to use.

 "Great stroller!" 2009-08-14
By S. Mcleod (GA)
My husband and I bought this stroller in hopes to have another baby. We have one little girl who sits very comfortable in it. The stroller manuevers very well through stores. I did alot of research on different strollers, this one has it all. Plus it fits great in my Honda accord trunk. I was able to fit this stroller in with a chicco travel system stroller. This stroller is grea tto run with and comfortable for me and my huband to use.

The only negative I have to say is the way is collapes, it is a two handle breakdown and when you set it up the front wheel rubs against the ground. And to set up the back to lay down or be brought up is a little difficult to do.

All and All I like this stroller, it is a great buy and worth the money!

 "Love it!" 2009-08-14

I have had the opportunity to use this stroller in the single and toddler/infant configuration only, and so far I LOVE it. I use it for everyday walks and running and it is great! It is a very smooth ride, easy to steer and good quality with a genius design. Just a few complaints (and I realize even with these faults, this stroller is the best for me out there...) #1 - When I just have my infant in the down position in the stroller, the front wheel shimmies due to the lack of weight in the front. No issues when my older son is in the stroller, but when I run with just the baby, it can be a shakey ride for him. #2 - When we will use the second seat inline, we lose any storage space. When we take our treks to Disneyworld, it will present a challenge, although there are a few accessories out there that P&T makes. #3 - The only way I have figured to close or open it ends up with the handle bar being on the ground, most often on concrete, which could tear the foam covering on it. Easy enough solution though...I just went to our local bike store and got some handlebar tape. It is a great way to personalize your stroller, too (for any frequent WDW visitors, that is a plus so someone doesn't "accidently" walk away with your stroller.) I opted for the grey camo tape! #4 - for the cost of the stroller, I would have hoped some more accessories came with it. P&T can make a pretty penny on just selling the extras for this stroller! But admittedly, I have indulged in one that I love, the Cushy Ride. Great way to add some color to your stroller.

All in all, to have a jogging style stroller that will have some longevity to extend past the double stroller days is a huge benefit.
